Smaller Tip Units (μBTC)

Bitcoin had an amazing year, with it’s value rising to new heights every month. Previously, the minimum tip unit at Xotika.tv was 1 mBTC, currently worth more than $8. In this update, we have change the unit to be 1000x smaller, or 1μBTC, with a new minimum tip amount of 25μBTC, which is currently worth about $0.20.

We hope this will spur more activity overall and make it easier for models to make use of various remote vibe toys 😉

New Rates and Limits

With the new smaller tips sizes, we decided to update all other fixed rates and limits. The details are as follows:

Minimum Deposit: 50 μBTC  ($0.40)
Minimum Withdrawal:  5000 μBTC ($40.00)
Private Shows:  600 μBTC per minute ($5.00)
Minimum Goal: 1000 μBTC ($8.00)
Minimum Tip: 25 μBTC ($0.20)
(All USD values are estimated at current Bitcoin prices, $8000/BTC, but all amounts are fixed in Bitcoin value.)

BRB Mode

Some models needed a way to shut off their camera when needing some personal time but without going offline entirely.

Now each channel has a BRB button which a model can activate to close the video feed to the public until the she is ready to come back. This lets viewers know the model is still online and will be back soon!

UIX Updates & More

You will see a number of design improvements, including new fonts, a new Bitcoin icon, and improved layout. We have cleaned up aspects of message & tip stacking, some moderation bug fixes, and cleared up many other minor annoyances.

We have removed the Shapeshift altcoin conversion feature due to low activity and to focus on Bitcoin while we wait for better 3rd party options.

Channels that use an underscore, “_” in the name will now display as a normal space in the listings.

We lowered the volume on all interface sounds a bit, since some users found them to be startling.

Coming Soon: Xotika Stars, Studio Accounts, Notifications

We are already hard at work on the next update, which will include our new Xotika Stars model bonus program, improved account features for model studios managing multiple accounts, and additional ways to be notified when your favorite channels go live.

Bug Fixes, New CEO, New Support Help

Bugs Fixed, Private Shows Improved!

We recently deployed an update to the site fixing various bugs and improving aspects of the recently released Private Shows feature. Please continue to report any bugs you may find, or any feedback about the platform by emailing support@xotika.tv or joining our Telegram chat group.

Welcome our CEO!

John Carvalho, formerly the CCO, joined Xotika almost one year ago. Since then we have established a growth plan and strategy and he will be filling the CEO role at Xotika.TV to make it happen. In the short term, we will be working hard to get the most out of the new Private Shows feature by getting more models online, and in turn, more viewers as well.

Model Support Representative

In the coming days, we will be adding some manpower to the support side of things with a new Model Support Representative. They will help acclimate models to the website, training how to use the features, familiarizing them with Bitcoin nuances, and taking any questions or feedback models may have.

Xotika Update 1.02 Patch Notes - Private Shows, Message Stacking, Tip Stacking, New Brand, UIX Cleanup, etc

Today’s update deploys the long-awaited Private Shows feature as well as many other updates to the platform. Please visit Xotika.tv and perform a hard-refresh to be sure you’ve got the latest version loaded (CTRL-F5, or CTRL-click the refresh button).

It’s inevitable that with this much change, users will find some bugs or unexpected behavior in the platform. We appreciate that and encourage you to report any bugs or feedback! Please reach out to us by emailing support@xotika.tv, or by joining our Telegram chat group at https://t.me/XotikaTV

Private Shows

Private Show Toggle, in My Channel area

When a Channel has the Private Shows feature enabled, a member or guest account can request a private session with the host that only he/she can view and chat within. The session will continue tracking cost, by the second, until the host or viewer ends the session. The final fee will be rounded to the nearest mBTC, based on the current rate. If the viewer times out, the session will end automatically after 30 seconds.

We are launching Private Shows initially with a fixed rate of 0.87 mBTC per minute. We will monitor the rate and gather data for a while and we may adjust the rate periodically. We intend to implement additional tools in the future that will allow hosts & viewers to customize or increase the rate, allowing the market to properly price demand. For now, the rate will remain fixed and universal across the site.

Private Show Request Button & Tip Button

Any channel that has Private Shows enabled will display a new button beside the Tip Button that will allow users to request a Private Show. When requesting a Private Show, the system will reserve 1 mBTC from the viewer’s account until the request is accepted by the host, and the show begins. The host or viewer may then end the show at any time by clicking the End Show button, which appears in the new Private Show status bar above the chat box.

We expect our models to be as responsible and entertaining in private as they are in public, and for our viewers to be respectful and reasonable with their expectations. If either party has problems with expectations being met while in a Private Show, simply end the show and move on, or report any serious issues to our team.

Message & Tip Stacking, Chat History

This update includes an improvement to the chatbox that will vastly reduce the amount of vertical space used up by chat messages and tips. All consecutive messages or tips made by the same user will now be stacked into one chat bubble, saving TONS of headroom.
Message Stacking, before & afterThis update also adds a feature that will allow you to recall previously typed messages from your recent Chat History by pressing the up or down arrows from within the input box. This helps reduce time needed to resend previous messages and commands.

Notification Inbox

You’ll notice a new “bell” icon at top right now. While this is mainly used for hosts to receive Private Show requests for now, we will also use this for other updates and notifications in the future.

Updated Chatterbox & Tip Button

The pop-out chat box has been streamlined to open and close without refreshing, and now includes all buttons, including a Tip Button. The Tip Button has been moved in all views, to the chatbox area.

We decided to remove the recently added popover features for the Tip Button. The popover was intended to give users an easy way to tip larger, pre-set, amounts, but shortly after we implemented it, the Bitcoin price skyrocketed in fiat terms, and the added feature was almost never used. In the future, we will probably try different types pre-set button tools for hosts to use, and within other areas of the site.

SegWit-Powered Bitcoin

All deposits & withdrawals are set to use SegWit-enabled addresses by default. This should allow you save on transaction fees, but many wallets are not automatically estimating properly yet, so you may need to manually specify lower fee rates when depositing. (You may want to try the wallet or app from GreenAddress, they have the first light wallet supporting SegWit.)

This update also allows us to reduce the number of confirmations required to clear a deposit with Xotika.tv, only 1 confirmation is currently required. The new minimum withdrawal has been set to 5 mBTC.

Updated Documentation

The FAQs page has been updated and we’ve added a new Model FAQ page with a lot more information. We’ve added a new Terms & Conditions page and a Privacy Policy as well.

Interface Updates

The video feed now appears at the top of the page, prioritizing vertical space for the video and moving the Topic Box down below. We’ve also cleaned up some wasted space and redundant info by moving stats within the Topic Box and cleaning up the Bio padding a bit.

Similar layout edits have been made to the My Channels channel console area, as well as other areas of the platform.

The left expanding Browse bar has been removed and replaced with a Channels link.

New Logo

The new Xotika logoSample new ad for affiliate usageYou may have noticed that we have been updating our social media and various accounts to display our new brand logo. This logo was designed to modernize Xotika’s brand and make sure that Xotika stands out from the crowd of typical brands found within the streaming industry.

We find that the logo works great as a logo “bug” overlaid on video streams. We will be providing a full logo kit of digital files to broadcasters for usage in their streams, videos, and promotional graphics. The kit will include various versions, with transparencies and various strokes and icons.

New Default Channel Avatar

The default channel avatar has been updated, and we’ve uploaded a new ad kit for affiliates to use when generating referrals. Meanwhile, we are working on an overhaul of the entire website interface for a future update.

Odds & Ends

We’ve increased the number of channels each user can have from 3 to 5.

On the technical side, we have converted our back end to deal with Bitcoin in terms of “satoshis”, or, 0.00000001 BTC as a base unit. This will allow us to reduce the minimum tip amount to be lower than 1 mBTC (0.001 BTC) in an impending future update, when we will likely convert the platform to microbits, or  µBTC, or 0.000001 BTC. This change may also include a new minimum tip amount appropriate to the Bitcoin value.

We fixed a number of miscellaneous bugs, but please report new ones to us at support@xotika.tv!

Patch Notes: Xotika Update 1.01

A new update to the website has been deployed. Please visit Xotika.tv and perform a hard-refresh to be sure you’ve got the latest version loaded. (CTRL-F5, or CTRL-click the refresh button)

Odds & Ends

This update polishes a couple things in the new Tip Button and Chatbox Emoji Menu. We re-added the ability to click on usernames to paste them into the chatbox. We also made the Next Channel Popover disappear more easily after popping up.

Chatbox Message Recall

The chatbox will now store your last 10 messages, which you can recall by pressing the Up key, or Down, to cycle through your previous messages. The ordering is currently a little wonky, but will be fixed in the next update.

Patch Notes: Xotika Update 1.00

Today, we have deployed a new build of the software platform at Xotika.tv, as well as some other updates. This finally brings us to the official 1.00 version of the software!

Bitcoin Core 0.14

All Bitcoin nodes utilized in our system have been upgraded to Bitcoin Core 0.14, providing some performance improvements. We continue to support Core software and SegWit as a scaling option. As a small business, it is more practical for us to support keeping node operations as inexpensive as possible, and thus we cannot consider alternatives like Bitcoin Unlimited, as it would bring the cost of operation notably higher, and increase the centralization of Bitcoin.

We also recently increased the required confirmations for customer deposits from one confirmation to six. We know this is an inconvenience to customers, but we urge you to deposit early in preparation for watching and tipping your favorite entertainers. This change was made as a precaution to avoid doublespending risks in the current untrustworthy mining environment. Hopefully things clear up soon and we can reduce the confirmations required again.

As part of these Bitcoin upgrades, we have also started a fresh hot wallet, which means you should avoid depositing to any old addresses you may have used with us in the past.

New Tip Button

After the last update, where we removed some animations that were hogging browser resources, the Tip Button was left looking a bit indiscrete. So, we took the opportunity to polish it up and add a few extra features.

The new Tip Button has a popover feature with some preset tip amounts as buttons, as well as a new slider that allows you to set the tip amount without using a keyboard.

We’ll be monitoring use of the new button features and tweaking some aspects over the next updates.

New Emoji Menu

The chat box has been updated with a new emoji popover menu, allowing users to conveniently find and use a broad set of emoji while chatting. These emoji are separate from the reaction emoji you see, which remain in place.

This feature may show bugs with some characters & emoji, which we’ll fix in future updates where we add some other planned features to the chat box.

Video Overlay Bug Fix

This update also fixes a small bug that would occur when switching to the HTML5 player. Previously, a translucent overlay would bug over the video when switching. Now, it loads properly.

Please let us know if you find any bugs or have any feedback about these new updates!

Using Xotika.tv & Otika.tv As Platforms for Debate & Interaction in Bitcoin

Recently, Tone Vays helped provide a live stream of a “debate” between Roger Ver, of Bitcoin.com, and Johnny Dilley, Blockstream. Streaming it live, on Xotika.tv, allowed people to join together in our chatbox and comment to each other as things unfolded.

Watching an event live is a much different experience, and watching it with your fellow Bitcoiners while being able to interact with the broadcasters really ties it all together.

Some broadcasters use our platform to interact with viewers by having ask-me-anything segments in their shows, like Jason Seibert, on his legal show, I’m Not Your Lawyer. Some, like Bitcoin Uncensored, task the viewers in their chat room to fact-check for them while they broadcast from the field.

There is a lot of untapped potential for Bitcoin and the broader “blockchain” communities to use Xotika.tv or Otika.tv in these ways, and more.

On the recent episode of Bitcoin Uncensored, we included the chatbox into the video feed using Open Broadcaster Software (OBS). This will allow viewers to see the chat interactions with the hosts when they watch on YouTube or other platforms.

The audience chat log enables a streamer to receive real-time feedback on what the audience wants, and utilize to make more compelling dialogue.

This is our new tip button tool, coming very soon!

Our interface adds the ability to weight listener input in monetary terms, with Goals and Tipping features. This is a compelling use case for a streamer, as other streaming websites don’t have a frictionless way to do this. Viewers use tipping as a way to give feedback for content they like and appreciation for your efforts. We don’t force ads into the site, and we don’t even require registration to deposit and start tipping.

While we do provide both an “adult” platform at Xotika.tv, and a “SFW” alternative at Otika.tv, broadcasters should not be quick to dismiss Xotika.tv as an option. We have a lot more people making a home at Xotika because of its adult nature, and we welcome them with open arms.

“Because it’s an adult network, the audience can watch you, or go fuck themselves. Literally. There’s no rules.”
~Chris DeRose, Bitcoin Uncensored

Being a live platform, it transcends many of the spam problems with communicating on social platforms like Reddit or Twitter. You can’t buy downvotes on Xotika. You can’t buy followers and frustrate the community by drowning their content with noise and trolling. For people like Bitcoin Core and their supporters, an interactive livestream could really make it easy to educate the community, field their concerns, and debate alternative representatives.

Another great example would be the Bitcoin trading community. There are some great content makers and technical analysts that can monetize their time in new ways at Otika.tv by fielding questions from their audience about indicators and trading methods. Or, communities like Whalepool could simply stream their live feeds at Otika and utilize it as their own trollbox 🙂

Bitcoin, as a community, is still pretty small, but this community matters to us and we’d love to extend our family to include more of you. We’ve got people ready to help you set up, and a growing community of content makers working together to make great content.

Patch Notes: Xotika Update 0.9.9-r2

A new update to the website has been deployed. Please visit Xotika.tv and perform a hard-refresh to be sure you’ve got the latest version loaded. (CTRL-F5, or CTRL-click the refresh button)

This update includes some bug fixes & performance improvements. Next week we’ll deploy another update with a brand new tip button design, and some other cool stuff. Patch notes below…

Bug #1 – When registering an account, four words are disallowed in usernames: server, xotika, otika & guest

However, the user wasn’t given any error message when they attempted to use those words, leaving it unclear why their registration failed.

Solution: Added error messages to notify user when they are trying to register usernames with forbidden words.

Bug #2 – When switching between the Flash and HTML5 viewing modes, the video player lost some functions, displayed bugs, or disappeared entirely.

Solution: Cleaned up transition of video modes to close and open properly, removing some of the undesired behaviors.

Bug #3 – When registering an account, the form did not properly accept some special characters for common email addresses, like hyphens in domain names, “-“

Solution: Expanded the acceptable character set for email dresses to allow common special characters.

Bug #4 – Some users have issues with our website using an undesirable amount of resources from their computers. This is mainly due to some limitations we have in throttling repeating animations in our user interface.

Solution: We pinpointed and removed or optimized all animations to be static, instance-only, or limited to a few seconds. This should provide a noticeable reduction in system resources utilized when viewing our site.

Bug #5 – An error message displays repeatedly when typing disallowed characters into the Channel naming field.

Solution: Corrected error message to display once.

Bug #6 – Not a bug, but we added a link to our Telegram channel near the Community and FAQ buttons. Come say hello! https://t.me/XotikaTV

Update from Xotika HQ

Hello from Ro!

What’s up, party people?! This is John, reporting from XO Media headquarters. I recently moved out here to Romania to begin working directly with the team as we start implementing our plans for 2017. The food here is great, and meeting everyone has been awesome. The weather is cold, but not unbearable.

We started the month with several days of meetings to discuss and prioritize our plans and projects. We proceeded with the hiring process for a new front-end developer, who begins work later this week. He’ll be starting with some small bug fixes and optimizations.

Last weekend, we took a few days to relax in the mountains.

Private Shows, Coming Soon

One of the most frequently requested features we get from models & studios is for Private Show support. We’ve decided to add Private Show features into the current live version of the platform, hopefully within the next six weeks or so.

Private Shows will be a great new tool for models to utilize and a new way for our members to enjoy the site. The feature can be optionally enabled by any broadcaster, allowing users to request a Private Show. We’ll provide full details when it’s ready for release!

Static Website & User Profiles

After Private Shows are implemented, we intend to add a new static website area, which will include this blog, a new FAQ section, and a few other pages of content and resources. We’ll also work to include linkable profile pages for each user, which will display new statistics & achievements related to your activity at Xotika.tv. More to come…

Xotika.tv 2.0

A big part of our plan is to release a new version of our software platform, which will include new features, updates, optimizations, bug fixes, a new interface design, and a new brand for Xotika as a whole. We’re focusing on aspects that will give our broadcasters the most ability to monetize their content, as well as features that have been frequently requested.

Work is already progressing well on the new brand, and the design process for mocking up the new platform has also begun.

What About Content?

So far, I’ve mostly covered updates related to the software platform, but content is truly our lifeblood and we recognize that. We intend to synchronize our platform development work with parallel efforts to bring more content to Xotika.

We’ve identified that some of the types of broadcasters we’d like to have stream with us have a minimum expectation of features they still need us to provide to feel at home with us. This includes features like Private Shows, Channel Subscriptions, PPV Events, Video On Demand, and more. As we implement each new capability in the software, we will also make efforts to bring in new content makers that can make the most use of them.

That’s all for now! Look for more updates soon…
